TURBA New years dinner and networking

01/24/25

Given the current political situation and the drastic cultural budget cuts in Berlin, many artists and cultural workers are facing major challenges. To show solidarity and support, TURBA Factory brought together artists, curators, and representatives from project spaces and institutions to highlight the importance of their work and make their voices heard.

The artistic dinner was developed by Marisa Benjamim and Stan Weessies. The event reflected on the history of the venue—a former chocolate factory—by incorporating traces of chocolate into each dish, offering a critical perspective on its past function and contemporary significance.

We extend our gratitude to all participants who contribute significantly to Berlin’s cultural diversity through their daily work. This event was a statement on the importance of the independent scene and its indispensable contribution to the city.

About the Artists:

Stan Weessies is a Dutch artist based in Berlin. His artistic practice spans painting, video, and performance, with a primary focus on painting. Through his work, Weessies explores the enigmatic and compulsive nature of longing for an ideal image. At the same time – particularly in the act of painting itself – he engages with the absurd and obscure aspects of striving for this ideal, incorporating elements of cynicism.

Marisa Benjamim (Portugal 1981) lives and works in Berlin. Studied Master Art in Context, in UDK Berlin, Sculpture Bachelor and Visual Arts Master in ESAD Caldas da Rainha in Portugal. Her artistic work focuses on nature, especially flora. She observes the cycles and the elemental properties of flowers. Based on this research, she develops her artistic work. From edible installations to drawings created with natural materials and pigments. Benjamim works with and for nature, in site-specific, performative and interdisciplinary projects, in collaboration with biologists, scientists and gardeners.
