Im Rahmen der Open Studios Tempelhof 2025 präsentiert Shivani Luithle Botanical Bodies, eine Ausstellung, die die kolonialen und wissenschaftlichen Hinterlassenschaften in der botanischen Illustration untersucht. Mit einem multidisziplinären Ansatz beleuchtet Luithle, wie visuelle Darstellungen Pflanzen – und in der Folge auch Körper – historisch als passiv oder exotisch inszeniert haben und dadurch Narrative des Andersseins formten.
Die Ausstellung, die während eines kürzlichen Residenzaufenthalts mit Unterstützung von Künstler-Techniker Alan Horsley entwickelt wurde, zeigt neue skulpturale Arbeiten auf Gussbasis, in denen botanische und anatomische Formen zu fiktiven Pflanze-Mensch-Hybriden verschmelzen. Die Präsentation umfasst eine Reihe von Wandskulpturen, eine große Bodenskulptur sowie ein tragbares skulpturales Objekt. Ergänzt wird dies durch eine Sammlung von Gemälden und eine gesprochene Klanglandschaft, die durchgehend im Raum zu hören ist.

As part of Open Studios Tempelhof 2025, Shivani Luithle presents Botanical Bodies, an exhibition that investigates the colonial and scientific legacies embedded in botanical illustration. Through a multidisciplinary approach, Luithle examines how visual representations have historically rendered plants—and, by extension, bodies—as passive or exotic, shaping narratives of otherness.
Developed during a recent residency with support from artist-technician Alan Horsley, the exhibition features new mould-based sculptural works that fuse botanical and anatomical forms into fictional plant-human hybrids. The presentation includes a series of wall sculptures, a large floor sculpture, and a wearable sculptural piece, accompanied by a collection of paintings and a spoken word soundscape that plays throughout the space.
